I am a lamen. I am a networking IT guy and have very limited understanding of phone systems and these Programming & Feature Guides I have. I have read a few posts and my understanding is that line prefence selection for outbound calling is done at individual stations and not at the main unit level. Is there a way to set the system, without programming EVERY station, to pick up any handset and have it try line 1, then 2, then 3, etc for the 1st free outbound line? If so, which section of the manual should I refer to for programming? I've looked at 005, 103, 400 and 605-606, but I don't know the verbiage as it's Chinese to me. Please expalin in lamens terms if possible.
Also, what do I need to do specifically to set up system to display name & number of the calling party on any/all handsets. I'm confused between in-house extension CID and external callers CID.
BTW, for background on my particular installation...This was just installed yesterday. We grabbed it from a customer location that we upgraded. I had the electricians throw it up on the wall and just "make it work." They put nothing in extensions 1 - 8, they simply jumped out to an existing phone block so all existing jacks were livened up. The only RJ-11's in the system are from the VOIP network interfaces to the two ports labeled lines 1&2 , 3&4.
Please help!

At each station press programm 99-1-2 and store. I can only suggest that you get a technician out there to straighten out toh MDF and blocks and go over the basics with you. Your 1st mistake was to use electricians. Just "throw it up on the wall and make it work" Is it any wonder you have problems? MrG

Thank you, worked brilliantly. My boss, the master electrician, knows just enough about phones to "get it working" and has asked me, the computer guy to get it programmed. I thought it would be easier, lol. He's too cheap to have an actual technician come in, so it's funny he chose me to get it programmed, b/c as a computer guy, I knew enough to search for a forum, as there are always people who are willing to help! Thanks again!
Anyway, any quick sequence or easy fix to allow caller ID name & number to show up on all handsets?
Also, I have 4 handsets (extensions 113 - 116) operating, is that b/c the 1st 12 are reserved for the ports on the unit itself (even though there are only 8 ports)?
If anyone needs help with a networking issue, I'll be glad to try to help. Also, I'm pretty good at Nextel phones, I belong to a forum on that, if anyone needs help, please ask.

There are no reserved ports. The basic system has 16 ports which can support digital or analog sets. From the amphanol connector in the system you get 8 ports off each one. Punch down your 25 pair properly on a M66 block. Allow 3 pairs per port. Top is the T/R which is used only for SLT or analog sets, the middle is the digital or data. the 3rd pair is not used. I would suggest using 2 pair for each set.
Activate caller ID in program 406 for the lines with CID. How the CID is displayed depends on the type of set and the version of the system. How do you know the system has the CID KX-T193 cards installed? MrG

I don't have the card, sorry. I just opened it up and see no card...I checked the install manual for where it should be (now that I know that I need a card, lol) and it's not there. BTW, they had hooked up the amphanol connector and punched down the 25 pair properly on the M66 block. I guess that's why everything is working without a hitch thus far.
Do you know any cheap placesa to get the CID KX-T193 card you spoke of? Do I need more than one?
Thanks again.

You can't see the CID cards just by opening the door on the cabinet. You would have to remove the outer case, about 9 screws. As for the extensions or ports there should be two 25 pair pigtails. Ports 1-8 are off the bottom connector and 9-16 are off the top. As for the card or cards try here: one card is good for 4 CO lines. www.usedpanasonicphones.com MrG

Is it possible to get caller ID data on a single line set? I plugged one in and it doesn't seem to come up with anything. A Panasonic keyset on the same station works, though
You can always tell when something is old if it says "Made in USA"

Rotary500, No, not from the digital TD systems. There was, (is) an 8 port expansion card that would pass CID to 1 slt. I believe it was KX-TD171. There should still be some floating around somewhere MrG
