There are still many of these systems out there in use. Changeing the ring is not a big deal but the purpose of not having programming information in the open forum is to protect the consumers product. There are people that don't know what they are doing and can cause more damage then good when they have to much information. There are also people that will mess with system for evil purposes which professionals shouldn't help.

Look, I am going to say this once and for all. The original poster did not have their profile completed and did not represent themselves as being an installer, or even having a manual for that matter.

If you will please read the general information statement at the head of every category in this forum, it is specifically requested that general information that is available in the user's guide is all that should be discussed in public. Any installer-specific information should be discussed in the installer forum or via private message.

No, of course I did not think that going around to every phone was the proper or most efficient method of programming the system. I simply followed the posting rules that are requested and expected of all members. It doesn't matter if the system has been discontinued, errant distribution of information to those not qualified may result in their causing more harm than good. We are not here for that, nor do we want to be responsible for something like that occuring.

No one is uptight. We are just trying to assist while staying within the guidelines of Tech Talk. It's just like speed limits; you can choose to ignore them if you want, but it will eventually be a problem. The requests that the moderators have made is not too much to ask or expect.

No one said it was easier. I think the reference was that centralized programming is an Installer level procedure. If users were proficient in that, they would be an installer and not need your services at all.

In any event, the rules have been put in place by the people that make this board available to us. As long as we choose to post here, we have an obligation to abide by them.

Then they most likely need to hire a professional. If that person needs assistance they can obtain it in the Installer's Forum.

You're a business man kme. Think about it. It takes money to operate anythng. This board is funded and administrated by companies who sell to professional installers. An end user is welcome to come here and get help on user level issues. If it's beyond their capabilities, then they have the option to use this board to look for a professional installer like yourself who can help them. If you run into problems, you have the full backing of professionals on this board who will go above and beyond to help you with any problem.

On the other hand, if you as a professional, want to help them for free out of the goodness of your heart, you have that ability afforded to you by using the PM function to help them. That's YOUR call. We just can't put it in the public forum where google will pick it up.

The purpose of this board is to assist legitimate certified installers that may need some help. It will also assist endusers with information that may be found in the user manuals. It is not meant to displace legitimate installation companies and is by no means here to give information to the untrained that can and will render a system inoperable. Doesn't matter if the system is in current manufacture or not. It's simple. Follow the rules. Should an enduser require additional help then we of course try to point them to some qualified to help them in their area. If that's not possible then they be assisted by someone via PM and there is probably going to be a charge for the installers time.
