So starting earlier this afternoon, I noticed my phone started clicking/flashing, looked like as if it was being disconnected/reconnected repeatedly (was not of course). Call in progress is disconnected.

Over the course of the day others complained about this happening.. it seems that all the digital ports on our KX-TD 1232 system are spontaneously resetting themselves for no apparant reason.. I don't know if it is all at the exact same time, or in groups, all the others physically close to me did at the same time, and they are on the same EXT card. But I know that others also did the same thing at some time, on the other EXT card, and on the base system ports as well.

Can anybody offer any suggestions as to what might be causing this? Obviously this is a fairly major issue if it continues, as calls are spontaneously cut off without warning. See my previous thread for some more info/history on our system..

I appreciate any ideas!
Thanks

Jason, you have a short on the data side of one of the stations. It is possible that the card is going out but I would look for a short 1st.
A line cord that may have been pinched by a desk or file cabinet, rolled over by a chair.
Something spilled on a jack or phone?
I would think it's 8 stations that are acting up,
probably all in the same group, 1-8 or 9-16.
Check this out and let us know.

Sounds reasonable if it was only one 8-port group, but I know for sure it is more than 8 stations. Perhaps not all at once, but definately overall. We have the 1216, plus 2 8-EXT cards, with a TVP100, leaving 30 digital ports, minus one that was fried a while ago.

The ones in my physical area of the office were doing it all at once, they are on ports 14, 16, 20, 21. The VP specifically mentioned his was doing it as well, on port 03. So the ones I know for sure have exhibited the issue (2 of which were simultaneous) cover 3 of the 4 8-port groups..

I think it is highly unlikely that shorts happened to develop in an extension of each group on the same day smile so, what could cause this to occur on the entire system?

I have never seen a single short cause ALL of the ports to begin malfunctioning, but I suppose that anything is possible. A short on the second pair to any station on that system will knock out all eight stations on the card serving it. This would seem to be a logical answer if all stations affected were on the same card, but from what you have indicated, your problem involves stations on three different cards.

I think you should consider pulling all cards in the system out (with the power off) and reseating them. I have seen a single defective card (it was a CO line card) that caused a situation similar to yours. You may have to reinstall them one at a time using a process of elimination.

It just occurred again.. and I have positive confirmation that at a minimum, ports 01, 03, 06, 16 ,17, 20, 21, 28, 29 all did it simultaneously. That covers the entire system.. (ie. all 4 8-port ext blocks) frown

Start the process of elimination by removing CO line cards one at a time and see if that has any effect.

I have no add-on CO cards, only two EXT cards. I suppose I have little choice but to try pulling them.. but since the problem is so intermittent - hours can pass between occurrances - it will be very hard to say when the problem is 'solved'. This morning it was 11:30 before it happened once! In a way, it would be better if the problem was worse smile

Jason, is this system on a UPS?
If not, it should be. If it is, temp. disconnect it and plug the system directly to the wall outlet.

My mistake; I thought you said that you have a KX-T123211D, not a KX-TD1232. Sorry for the bad advice. You still should try disconnecting each module frm the base unit one at a time to see if the situation improves. Also, is there much heat in the area where the system is located? That can wreak havoc on systems.
