Greetings! Hopefully I have located a forum that can help me with this issue!

We have a very basic phone system in our office. We have 3 incoming lines being handled by a KX-TD816 system, and 3 phones - (1) KX-T7230 and (2) KX-T7220 units. We do not have any voicemail, auto-attendant, or anything fancy like that set up.

Until recently, the system has been programmed so that when an incoming call arrives, the KX-T7230 is the only phone that will actually ring. It will ring about 4 times, and if no one has answered by then, the other phones will begin ringing as well.

Something got changed, though, and the 7230 is not ringing those initial 4 times. I see the line start to flash, indicating an incoming call, but no ring. After the correct amount of time, though, the call goes out to all the phones, and they do begin to ring, including the 7230.

I've been digging through what documentation I have looking for a probable cause, but haven't come up with anything. Any ideas or suggestions as to what would have caused this to happen, and how to reverse it?

Thanks in advance!

Are you sure the ringer is not turned off on that phone? With the "aoto answer" off will it ring on intercom when called by another station?
Try this 1st.
Another possibility is that someone got into the programming and set delayed ringing on all sets.
Also see if by chance the system was set to nights?
Just press the # key on the 7230, it should show day or nights.

Thanks for the prompt reply!

To answer your questions...

I checked the ringer first thing, having accidentally turned it off before! It is indeed on.

With 'auto answer' off, the 7230 will ring when an intercom call comes in.

When I check the day/night status on the 7230, it does say that it is set to 'Night'. I consulted my manual, which says to pick up the handset and dial 780 to change to Day mode... when I do that, I get "not valid" as soon as I dial 78. I see a note in the manual that "Only the operator 1 can perform the following" with regard to making that change. What is meant by that? I know in the distant past that a technician we had out took my phone (the 7230) and connected it directly to the D816 unit in order to do some programming... might I need to do that?

At Ext. 101, press intercom, 780.
You may have your set to go off hook on a CO line.
If your not using 101 then take the 7230 to the cabinet and plug it into port 1.

Thanks! Switching it to Day Mode solved our problem. This is a home-based business... Ext 101 is over at my employer's house, and it is not the first time his kids (more than likely) have screwed something up over here. I've managed to protect all of our computer stuff from them, so I guess they've moved on to the phones! laugh
