Customer complains of dropped calls on an intermittent basis. Call will ring in to system, but when user tries to answer the call they hear a tone/beep and the call drops off. I have not been able to duplicate the problem. I am wondering if it's a carrier issue or a hardware issue.

Telman, What type of CO lines are coming in? By chance is this only from cell phone callers. If it's only on one CO line It sounds as though it could be an old dialup modem or even an alarm system. If the call is dropped or the phone is dead I would check it at the D-marc with a buttset, that does sound like the line seizure of an alarm panel. MrG

They are 1FB CO's from LEC. The customer says it happens on all lines and phones. I tried to get him to try to isolate the problem to a parituclar line or phone set but he said it happens on all. I will try to get him to be more specific. In the meantime I will check with buttset. Thanks.

There is something to be said about the copier issue. Our copier was recently relocated to an area where there's not a dedicated circuit for it. When it is turned on, several UPSs for our computers will beep and go into protective mode by running for a few seconds. The copier must be causing the line voltage to dip enough for them to detect it. I'm sure that a KSU would experience enough trauma by such a dip to cause erratic behavior.

ILEC, or CLEC using channel bank? And a laser printer can cause problems, too. And a lot of other devices on the same AC circuit. Time-of-day related? Or any other common cause. And of course, Call Waiting that the customer doesn't even know he has! Can you turn off the battery break-disconnect function on an 824? That should tell you where the problem is coming from, although it won't necessarily tell you how to fix it. Note that this will probably cause no end of problems if the customer has AA/VM!
