(grin) OK I've read here that the Builtin Voice mail for the KX-TA824 is limited but I can't seem to find how to check VM from another PT. In other words:

BV has been initialized

jack 15 is assigned as extension 115 (default)

From another phone (say 101) I dial 7251 115# to leave ext 115 a vm.

From yet another PT (say 102), I want to pick up messages left for 115.

I tried assigning 115 an access code of 7315 (not a password but just for testing) but when I go off hook on 101 and dial 7315 it gives me a "bad dog" tone on the 5.

The ops manual (pg 41) indicates how to retrieve vm from a PT but that uses the MESSAGE button and does not indicate how to get VM for another extension.

You have to set up bv access code in 625,
then you dial in to extension vm, when you hear the ogm enter the vm code
Each code for each extension should be different as the code gets you in to that extension mailbox

you cant use the extension number as code

Sorry for the late reply, I have been trying to get it to work.

Something must be set wrong.

Again using KX-TA824 with TA82492 VM card

Here are my programming steps:

1) Jack #15 (my test phone), ext 115
Jack #01 (my system phone), ext 101

2) From the Jack #01 phone I get into
system programming mode and type in:
625 [next] 15 6533 [store] [end]
(I get the OK tone and I exit sys prgm)

3) From jack 01 I send jack 15 a message:
[off-hook] 7251 115# [record message] hang up
Message light on 115 lights up indicating a msg waiting

4) From jack 01 I want to check messages for 115
[off-hook] 7252 (ok up to this point)
6533 (reject tone on the 6)

My assumption here is that 725 is the VM extension?

To retrive messages you have to be put in to the vm box that you want i.e dial ext 115 when the vm answers while the ogm is playing enter code it will then play back messages.
you will have to set up call fwd to bv box using 712725# thats busy /no answer to bv

7252 is for common area messages play back.

If 725 1 ext # is letting you record message in other vm then 725 is the message card access code.

Thanks OBT,

Well you can't say the VM is not without its challenges.

At some point we'll have a detailed programming guide (grin).

Revised programming steps:
----------------------------------------------
1) Jack #15 (my test phone), ext 115
Jack #01 (my system phone), ext 101

----------------------------------------------
2) From the Jack #01 phone I get into
system programming mode and type in:

625 [next] 15 6533 [store] (ok tone)

----------------------------------------------
3) Now I want to indicate that the ext should
go into voice mail if the user does not pickup

622 [next] 15 [select enable] [store] [end]
(I get the OK tone and I exit sys prgm)

----------------------------------------------
4) From jack 01 I send jack 15 a message:

[off-hook] 7251 115# [record message] [hang up]
(Message light on 115 lights up indicating a msg waiting)

----------------------------------------------
5) From jack 15 I want to indicate that if
user is busy or there is no answer, calls
should be forwarded to VM

[off-hook] 712725# [on-hook]

----------------------------------------------
6) From jack 01 I want to check messages for 115

[off-hook] 115 [phone rings, ext ogm plays]

6533 (keeps playing ogm)

#6533 (keeps playing ogm)

=====================
Somehow I am missing a config that allows
retrieving vm from another extension.

The manaul said from to retreive message from outside call, as in from co, haven't tried it from a internal ext. May only work from a co call?
