y'know what kills me I am just taking your word
that that 1.39 cent fuse is hard soldered in i have never had one blow on me but don't you think that that is moronic that the 624 was created for non-dealers and was a quick and dirty replacement for the kx-t 308/616 handy
man system you'd think that fuse would be easily
replaceable and not hidden behind a trap door
held in with molten lead and rosin ?

Gave customer a -4 I had laying around, as a loaner. Was gonna send it in to Panasonic to look at tomorrow. But after reading all the replys, I might take the expansion card and doorphone ribbon and whatever else out and then see if the system comes back. If it doesnt come back,Ill send it to Panasonic. Ill keep you posted. What is "jumping out the fuse"?

a fuse is made from a super-thin wire that melts with excessive current.

it sacrifices itself to save the rest of the components.

usually fuses are placed in sockets so they can be easily replaced if they blow. sometimes the technician does not have a replacement fuse immediately availabe.

"jumping-out" the bad fuse means replacing the fuse with a regular piece of wire, which will not "blow-out" when there is excessive current, like the original fuse would.

leaving a fuse jumped-out is not a good idea.

many years back, most of the electronic key/pbx systems had a fuse for every extension. you would open up the cabinet and there would a bunch of 4 or 8 port station cards with fuses on them. over the years these fuses slowly disappeared and were mostly jumped-out. one tech that i worked with said that every time he replaced a fuse, it would immediately blow, so he started jumping them out.

eventually someone asked him where he was getting his fuses and he replied "FROM LOU'S AUTO SUPPLY ON MAIN STREET"

!He didn't realize automotive fuses are rated for 12vdc!

In all the panasonic KSU's that I've had go through my shop, I can probably count on one hand, the number of bad fuses I've seen.

One thing I'll say about Pana- they make a heck of a good fuse smile

Let's get together gentlemen. Must we get into a battle of the wits over this? If you feel the need to bicker, how about conducting this via PM? You are not helping anyone by constantly trying to shoot each other's opinion down.

While you are at it, please look into using spelling/grammar check. Some posts in this thread are nearly intelligible. We are supposed to be professionals offering support, but it's hard to be taken seriously with some of these posts.

Finally got a chance to take system apart , took cards out , unplugged ribbon from P.S. System didnt come back up. Sending it out to Panasonic this week. System is basically installed in a crawl space where moist air is able to get to it. The main board and the ports on that board were corroded. Dont know if Panasonic can perform this miracle, we'll see.
