I will be installing a TVS-50 voice mail card to a KX-TA624 phone system for a customer and while reading the install manual I noticed I need a RS232 DB-9 Pin to DB-9 pin connector. The problem is that I have a newer laptop without a RS232/Com 1 connection. I only have a RJ45 network connection, USB connection and a modem connection.
Is there a cable and software I can use to set this up? My laptop has Windows Vista.
Thank you,
Tony

Good Luck on the Vista, I can't speak to that dog, it's hit and miss. The cable you need is a USB to Serial cable available almost everywhere from Radio Shack to Walmart. I don't know if Panasonic recommends a specific manufacturer, but it really shouldn't matter who makes it as long as it's driver is Vista compatible. Mark

Tony, I seriously doubt that you will get it to work with Vista as your OS. You are also going to need a null modem adapter in there somewhere. -------------------------- MrG

I will try the USB to serial cable when I install the system. I know that Vista will run programs written in 98, 2k and XP. But what software do I use? I have found a program called Install_kxta. Is this the correct software for this system?
Thanks

I have found that the cheaper usb to serial convertors don't work, make sure you spend a little more and get one which connects all pins, you will then need a 9-9pin null modem cable to connect to the tvs50, this will also need to be one with all pins connected. Programming the PBX can be done by phone, but finding a template will be a problem, they are like gold dust, the customer may have one knocking about with their user manuals/original documentation. Can't comment on the whole Vista side of things.

What software/program is needed to program this system? I have the cable/adapter as described (which works beautifully with the Nortel systems I program), but not sure about software, etc. I have a client who needs some basic programming, and I'm a Nortel guy. Tried programming Panasonic before via sets, but I pulled most of the remaining hairs out of my head. Those that remained turned gray the next day...

no software for 624 keypad only and dumb terminal emulation such as zoc is a good vt100 terminal program and most likley will run on vista and usb to db9 adapter and null modem adapter 9600,n,8,1 no flow control.
