I tried to fax from my HP Fax tonight and kept getting busy signals. When I tried to dial out with my SLT phone I got the message "that number not inservice" How do I set up SLT for outside lines? I thought all you had to do was dial 9 first. This didn't work either. Help please?

Have you tried dialing a 9 from a proprietary phone and seeing what CO line you are landing on? The busy signal you got when trying to use your fax, is it a reorder tone (fast busy)? If so, your fax may not even be getting to an outside line. Also, a recording is generated by the telco, not the phone system, so you could be mis-dialing.

I can only agree with kevhawk. If you are receiving a recorded message then this is from the line provider not your system. So I can only think you are mis-dialling.

And what is the chance that your fax extension is progammed for direct outside line seize? In other words, the system connects an outside line to the fax extension automatically, and you don't have to dial '9'. Then you are adding a '9' to the front of any number you dial. The LEC 'see's' 9XXX-YYYY instead of XXX-YYYY. Just a thought. smile John C. (Not Garand)
