Here is a real brain teaser. I have a 824 with connected to 2 different VOIP providers, cable and Vonage, and both lines have the same problem. During a call, the line on my end will go silent with a slight increase in background volume (like a hookswitch). The other end hears something like a DTMF tone or a screech then silence. The whole thing lasts 3 seconds and is a totally random event. Any ideas???

Yes, but first, welcome to the BB..... welcome

Now, down to the problem......get rid of the VoIP and your problem will go away.

Have a good evening..... call

Most VOIP dial tone emulation products don't provide the correct voltages, loop current and signaling parameters to meet national USOC standards. The 824 is expecting "real" CO line parameters while IP adapters aren't providing them.

Panasonic KSU's offer loop monitoring, so if the proper voltage isn't detected, their CO ports will operate on a marginal basis at best. These systems won't even allow you to access a CO line if there's not sufficient line voltage present.

You'll need to adjust the line voltage output from the IP adapter/modem, etc. to emulate a real 48 volt CO line. Sorry for the bad news, but you get what you pay for.

First great board. Second I Just had this issue come up with a customer of mine and he was using Pots lines with 28ma of loop current on each line. High side tone and the caller saying that he could hear tones. Caller ID wasn't working on his second line either. What resolved it for me was to upgrade his system to the latest firmware. His caller ID came back and all is well.
I would also agree with what Ken and Ed said about this they are right on as usual.

I have a vonage line in my system. Other than the static on the line, it has been working for almost 2 years. Static follows the line port

If the static is not from the line, it is coming from the adapter. Vonage had an issue with some of their adapters that a reset will fix. Try using port 2 on the adapter. If that does not fix it, they will send you another for free if you tell them you a a long time customer ;>
