Greetings my fellow brothers of the communications industry.
A question for the Panasonic experts on here I have a 1232D system I just installed in a small mom & pop motel I have version 3 and I enabled the option for hotel features as far as I’ve seen so far that simply will give me a visual indication on a DSS of the room status - ready or not ready and also the maid can dial a code and change the room status. Is there a code or room status change that can be made at the front desk to restrict the room from calling out?
The guest rooms are all single line phones and at the front desk I have a 7235 key set.
Also I have all the spare keys on the 7235 programmed as DSS button’s can the shift button be used to make these DSS buttons store a 2nd ext?
Thanks in advance for any input.

Nix on the dss buttons and the shift key. Your thinking Nortel.
The outgoing call restrictions are in the system programming. ------------------------ MrG

of course they are, but I was hoping PANASONIC would have an option similar to say a MITEL that allows for an easy way of allowing or disallowing outgoing calls... Apparently there is not such an option or feature that you are aware of. Thanks tho...

The FLdiver ! ! ! Why would you sell them a 1232D? That system is as old as dirt. At least offer them a TD1232-6 or -7. Even a -5 will work. It will make them much happier and give you a good referral. How are you going to control or restrict (change the class of service) the extensions once they exceed their deposits. You cannot possibly allow the customer to go into system programming to change the class of service every time they need to restrict an extension. That would just suck and you would have a customer that would want your head on a platter. How would they monitor how nuch the extension owes? Read the print on the fly SMDR? That would be horrible and revert the hotel back to the dark ages. That place will lose their shirt or you will have to restrict all toll calls system wide, offer them free calls and have the proprietor make O profit, in which case you won't have to worry about any maid status because their is no PMS software that will integrate with that old crap. My suggestion is have the customer spend a little more because , believe me it is money well spent. You will have a happy customer that will swear by you and give you many referrals. Their business is no different than ours. Hotels that succeed are ones that provide excellent customer service. Their business is to run the hotel, not the phone system. If you need any help, I've been dealing with the hospitality industry since 1987 and can give you some pointers

I have a similar application (not using Pansonic ) and what we wound up doing was having the telco deny toll calls on all lines
they sell calling cards at the front desk but most guests have cell phones anyway
guests can still receive incoming calls and make local calls
its been working well

WOW I just asked about shift keys and DSS buttons. Anyways it is a KX-TD1232 it does all that and I found out how to restrict calling.
Now if it wasnt for the fact that they have little money I'd sell em a Mitel since I've been installing them mostly for the last 25 years... But thanks for your input... FYI for that really old 1232 you are referring to there actually was a program out there that did some hotel/motel functions and it worked quite well
