OK, I got the VM to answer immediately by putting in station 165 at ext 450.
When I ask it to answer ext 301, it goes directly to 301's mailbox.
Anything obvious?
Yes, I am retired - so why am I still working on phones?

Make sure 301 is not in DND or CF All.

301 is a ring group, or an ICD in Pan-english.

if you want 301 to be answered by the AA and not a mailbox remove 301 mail box in AA. If not give more details of what you want it to do
“I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.”
