Greetings All, I have another one of those mysterious trouble calls. One extension (110);only one extension intermittently clicks and drops calls. We have tried a different telephone, switched pairs, tried a different port, changed out jack, line cord, handset cord, and installed an RF filter on the jack end of the drop. I thought I'd try another filter on cross connect side of cable just to see if it would make a difference. It is intermittent and rarely happens when I'm around. Anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions? Pulling in a new drop is going to be somewhat of a challenge due to design of the building, so hopefully I won't have to resort to that.

Thanks in advance!!

J, So your saying the trouble stays with port 10 no matter what.
You did confirm that port 10 is actually extension 110?
Anything over the 1st 8 is telling me you have an expansion card on that system.
Maybe a loose Amp connector or a bad Amp cable.
Also is the screw seated good as this is the ground to that expansion card.

You know, I thought about the exp. card, but not ribbon cable or the screw. I tend to forget the weird stuff a bad ground can cause. And yes to the port question; extension in question is ext. 110:cross connected to port 10. On my second trip out I moved her to port 15/ext 115 to eliminate the bad port possibility; did the same thing. It's peculiar that it's that extension only acting up. I'll try your suggestions. Appreciate it Mr. G!

How far is the run? If the run is too far the only thing you get out of the set is clicks. On 24ga wire you can only have a set 728ft from the KSU, can go to 1100ft if you use 22ga.

Changing the phone was done in the original poster's initial efforts.

It sounds like you tried everything but changing the cable. Is there a jack nearby where you could put x110 on and have her run off of that, even with a long linecord? Just to prove that it's the cable.

Usually that would indicate a short in the cable or a reversal of polarity. Are you running 4 pair cable? Do you have XDP enabled? If you don't, you only need one pair of good wires. I would test each individual wire with an Ohm-meter....remove everything from the port...and set up the extension next to the KSU. If the extension does the same thing when it is connected with a <5ft cable then the problem lies in the system. Did you sell him the system? If you didn't, I'd upgrade him to the TDA and finance it. Keep in mind that if the customer is ready to pay for your time to correct the problem then he might as well pay for a new system. Good Luck!
