UNBELIEVABLE !!!!!!! That sums it up,,, I put a 82492 voice mail card in my KX-TA824, I have been working on it for HOURS,,, 4 books to wade through and nowhere does it just tell you how to make it work !!! Now I have already read all other threads with people having this problem and none of them tell how to fix it. Forgive me but the advice to toss it and buy something else is just not helpful at all. I have the card,, I just want it to work. I can make it answer the phone always or never, no in between, the only constant is that it will NEVER take a message. I plays the OGM but then just gives a sort of busy signal. I can adjust the time to the busy signal, but never can get a beep or leave a message. I have 3 phones on the system, I would like everyone to have VM as advertised but I would settle for just one mail box on the receptionist's phone.

Everything is so damn cryptic and convoluted, why does BV stand for Voice mail? and CO stands for incoming line??? I have been plowing through 4 books and back and forth to no avail. For example, where it tells you how to program your outgoing message it says to go off hook and press 723 1 # Well no where does it tell you to push intercom first, which is what you MUST do, doesn't tell you that though,, I actually pressed it by accident and it worked.

Can anyone please help me just make it work ? I want it to answer during the day if no one answers the phone and answer immediately at night.

If you have read this far I thank you !!!!

Andy

Andy,
All of the posts that recommend tossing it are there for a reason. This is one time where Panasonic really missed the boat.
I have made this thing work, but it was and is a POS. It was a while ago and I don't really remember how I got it to work. If you're committed to seeing this thing work, then hire a qualified installer (ask him if he's made one of these work before).
I'm assuming you're not a telephone guy because CO is a common term for telephone line (it stands for Central Office). When the instructions say go off hook, it doesn't say press intercom because intercom is the default status for the off hook condition. Most programming manuals assume there is a certain level of technical expertise and don't spell everything out for you.

Yep, it should have been called a "BA", as in boat anchor. The acronym "BV" was basic voice mail. The only documentation I ever saw was the piece of paper that came in the box with the card that was folded down to the size of a match book.

I've never been successful in getting them to work either. We got lucky and for some reason, we had one work for about a week and then it started doing the same thing. The customer was patient and actually appreciated a countertop answering machine in lieu of the internal card. They said they would have preferred that but we were the ones who told them that they needed the card. Now everyone is happy with a plain old answering machine.

I had an answering machine but the 824 would not disconnect from it if the caller hung up on the machine. It would always just say incoming call on the handset to the machine and I would have to take it off the hook and hang it up to reset it so we never had any messages. It used to work fine, but quit one day. Panasonic is still selling the card, I have to believe that there is a way to get it to work.

An answering machine connected to a station port on the 824 will not receive CPC, or calling party control which tells it to release the call when the caller hangs up. The only way around this would be to connect the answering machine to the CO line ahead of the system. As for the BV card, I can only say that maybe someone else here is having better luck with them who will chime in.

Thank you all for your responses. I have been working on this today for 4 hours and it is working dandy. 2 outgoing messages, one for during the day if we step out and one for after hours. It is a very complicated procedure but I will be making a new post this afternoon with detailed instructions on exactly what settings need to be made if anyone is interested.

Andy, did you eventually document the process? I'm having the same issue.

Thanks in advance

I wonder how much profit he could generate installing or selling his product instead of fumbling to be A "PhoneMan".
