We're a very small software company, 9 employees. Looking at the NEC Aspire and Panasonic KX-TDA50 systems. The NEC costs significantly less than the Panasonic.

Anyone who has had experience with both and would reommend one over the other?

They are both reputable systems. The Panasonic does tend to price out a bit higher than many others, but the TDA is Panasonic's flagship system.

You really should not be looking at as much the price as you are the dealer and their credentials. Some dealers charge more than others due to their level of expertise, more expansive product line offerings, licensing and training. I know that Panasonic does not allow the sale of the TDA product line without factory certification that's fairly expensive to the dealer. I am not sure about NEC's training policy. If a competing dealer doesn't have all of these under their belt, that might be a big part of the price difference.

There's also a big difference between hiring experienced installers who know how to make the system do what you want as opposed to those who just try to come up with a less expensive offering.

The key in purchasing a telephone system is in evaluating the dealers. Check references and credentials. Remember that you are entering into a long-term relationhip with them, so make sure that you know who you are dealing with, not just the product and price. Good luck with your evaluation process and by all means, feel free to check back with us if you have any additional questions.

Both vendors we contacted are reputable and competent - we've used one for years. Both phone systems offer pretty much the same features. So it may come down to price - there's a $2,000 difference between the Panasonic and NEC.

Well, we don't discuss prices around here. That's against our rules, primarily since prices vary greatly throughout the country.

Just remember, buying technology equipment is nearly the equivalent of a marriage. You are committing to a relationship with your dealer, not the manufacturer and vice-versa.

If you have used one of the contenders for years, my vote would be to stay with them. They have shown you that they are in for the long haul.

You do have a difficult decision to make since your operation is fairly small. That is a huge price difference for a system of that size. Something doesn't sound right. You really should request line-by-line itemization of the proposed systems' components.

That is a substantial price difference for a system so small. Make sure you're comparing apples to apples (relative to what each system offers, of course). And I would take the process one step further and get second quotes for each product, just to see what the market bears.

Whenever we do a quick quote for that size system, we start with a good mark per phone and add round numbers for the cabinet and VM.
That number is less than twice the savings quoted.

Either the Panasonic dealer fell down and won the lottery, or the NEC system is really inexpensive.

Or just like Ollie and Sven selling Christmas trees, someone is going to make it up in volume.
