What exactly does this card do? Just get rid of echo on conf calls? Does it help with volume loss when doing conferences?

It just cancels echo.
If you do much conf, you need T1, PRI or SIP.
Or outside conf service.

Panasonic also recommends it be used anytime you are using IP phones.
