I'm back.

Just to reiterate, I am a computer tech at a small office. They have a KX-TDA100 and TVA50 that was installed before I started.

Got a couple new problems happening that they want me to try and fix.

1st, I am told that a certain extension is having issues receiving calls. She stated that it took the person multiple times. Each time it didn't work, she picked up the phone to hear what sounded like fax machine modem noise. Now, this could be user error on the other end as well.

2nd, yesterday another person claims they attempted to call multiple extensions but kept getting some error about extension is disconnected. She couldn't remember the exact words, so she was paraphrasing (which is great, I love t/s without knowing the exact error on computers).

If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate any assistance.

Edited to add: I've tested several extensions by calling from my cell and have not been able to recreate the problem.

!.What kind of calls? DID, AA transfers, Operator transfers, internal??? Sounds like a fax or modem calling a DID number.

2. The system does not give out any message like that.

1. If the phone is a display phone, the display will indicate where the call is originating. It could be "someone sending a fax from a fax on the system, not dialing 9, and the first three digits of the phone number correspond to the intercom number of the phone having the problem" You have to know where the call is coming from...

2. Maybe it was not an audible message, but the display indicating "NOT VALID". This could be anything including a faulty DLC16, and calling to any of the extensions are "NOT VALID".

Both of these are "off the wall" speculations, but certainly not out of the realm of possibility.

You've got to have more specific info to troubleshoot...

The phone system and the Voice mail need to be configured properly for either to work properly.
Get someone with working knowledge of Pana TDA systems to set up both. Many on this forum could Modem in or RAS in and correct the configurations and then you could take it from there.
There would be a remote programming charge. But I don't think your boss would allow that, so you will have to thrash it out here.

Ok, the calls came from outside. A persons boss in another office was the one calling. What I am told is it took three attempts before he got through without the sounds. What I don't know, nor can they tell me, is to whether he was calling from a cell phone or from a land line. For some reason, they just assume it's our phones and that since I work on computers, i should fix it.

Sorry, kinda pissed. If they told me they expected me to work phones as well in the interview, I would have told them no to the job.

The not getting any extensions to work issue, the lady cannot remember the exact message (great, right?). She was calling from home I do know that She now says she thinks it was something like 'the number dialed could not be connected'.

I'm thinking it may have been a common pebkac style error.

There is a fax answering the wrong ext inside, or the Boss was calling the wrong number.
The second, same thing , wrong number. Oo you don't have enough incoming lines and you have screwball provider that does not give a busy signal.

How do I determine which line is supposed to be the fax? I tested the fax number, and it seems to be ringing the conference phone. Not sure if they share it, or what. No one here knows the answer.

Thats why I said someone needs to go into the phone system and find what is going on. The fax may be ringing other numbers depending on time of day.
