I have a client who is max'ed out on their C.O. lines and wants to upgrade their system without having to change their phones. System is a KX-TD816 and the sets are (mostly) KX-T7433's.

So...question is: What model system (new or old) will handle 12 lines while retaining the existing sets?

A TDA with the Medium power supply will let you migrate about 20 non-76/DT3 sets to it. You have 96 port capability in the box, so getting a TDA-100 carded 16x32 ought to do what you need.
You will lose the XDP port capabilities in that configuration, so if you are using the port for any single line activity, you need to plan for it. Pana makes an 8-port DHLC that will work, or a 16-port single line card.

Out of production for 7(?) years is the 816's big brother, the KX-TD1232. Base size 8X16, any expansion parts from the 816 will fit, basic cabinet expands to 12 X 32, and 2 can be connected to go to 24 X 64. Programs same as the 816. Can handle PRI. CID with appropriate cards. BUT, parts are dwindling. Click the "EQUIPMENT" tab at the top of the page and see what Tom has first. ( smile )

If they are penny pinchers or if you are not a tda/tde/ncp dealer you can pick a KX-TD-1232-6 for peanuts and they don't lose there Xdp jacks and no learning curve reuse the old cards and the cut would be a breeze just rework the first 8 ports and worst case scenario extend the amps if they are short...little programing bang your done

your best bet is the kxtd 1232 , unless you are certified ,the newer systems could cause more problems than you need
i find some realy super deals for parts on e bay and prices to low to quote , just have to what you are looking for and do the research ,
