I've been tasked with finding suitable options for a small phone system for one of our retail store locations.
We need something that will support 2 co lines, 5 sets + overhead paging. We would like to use on external source for music-on-hold.
There will be no need for hunt groups, voicemail, or auto-attendant. The phones would be placed throughout the salesfloor, except for one in a back room.
So far we have been pitched a Toshiba CIX40, a Vertical (forget the model), and a Mitel5200. These all seemed designed for someone with bigger needs.
I requested pricing/information for the Panasonic from the sales rep who quoted the Toshiba, and she stated one of her technicians would not recommend it - but would not elaborate.
Does anyone here have feedback - positive or otherwise- from their own experiences with this 'system'?
Thank you in advance for any & all input.

Both the Panasonic TA-824 and the NEC DSX-40 will come in under $1K with 5 sets. Maybe that's why the Toshiba seller doesn't want to "bother with" such a small sale.
The reason for mentioning the DSX is that you can upload the promotion on hold message to the system without the need for an external box. A DSX is 4x8x2 initially, the Panasonic 3x8 where all 8 ports can be single line or multi-line sets. Both systems can track calls, both systems have a page inerface, both systems can program from a PC. In the DSX case, you program it from a network connection or USB port, the Pana from a USB port.

Under $1K installed? Wow, that is a bargain. The TA824 is a great system. Make sure you can get a good support agreement (in writing) from the potential vendor. Most will stand behind it.
I'm assuming that the Vertical offering was for their SBX320 which is competitively-priced, but the list of features can be a bit overwhelming for someone seeking a small, simple system.
As we always strive to say here, it isn't necessarily the product name or the price tag that makes the deal. It is finding a dealer with a solid reputation who will be there for you after the sale. That is the hard part in comparison shopping. Keep in mind that ALL systems will address your needs easily. Don't shop the product or price; shop their references.

if you are not set on new equipment , i find that the td816 is a great choice even the older revisions will do all you need , and good clean phones new and used are easy to find. i have placed many such setups with positve results and for a lot less money
