I have a DBS 842 and I can't get an external answering machine to answer the calls. The machine is correctly connected, but for some reason the system won't let it answer.

Digital telephone system...Analog answering machine... No go. You will have to connect it directly to line 1 ahead of your system, or have an analog adapter installed.
