I haven't followed the trends in the North American market in the last few years, but over here you'll have a hard time finding a large-screen LCD/plasma set which doesn't still have an RF input on it, unless it is sold and marketed specifically as a monitor and not a TV. Most of them now come with dual tuners for analog and digital broadcast services (analog will be obsolete here by the end 2012, except for RF inputs from other devices!).

I guess it all boils down to the convenience of the shop owner. I have verified on all the TV's he has right now, and im sure any he may get in the future, they all have RF inputs. His main gripe is getting behind the display area and having to "screw" on the connections. This is mainly for quick disconnect. I agree, its a bit overkill, but if he wants to pay, I will try to set him up with what he wants. Im just going to run a 50 ft Audio/Video RCA cable from his converter to the seven way splitter by the TV's. From that point, he can do the rest. Thanks for the help guys.

VA -

There are such animals as push-on Coax connectors....

I don't know how well an RCA-type signal is going to travel over 50 ft.

I'm planning out a little project for my community theater group. We have a RCA-connector based camera mounted in front of the stage, with a pre-wired cord (which is actually 4c modular wire) which runs backstage to a small 13 inch TV with RCA inputs. But that's just on one side. The other side of the stage is "blind". I considered splitting the RCA in the ceiling and running two 30 ft cables to either side, but someone here said it wouldn't work, or if it did, it would be too fuzzy. However, they suggested using an RF modulator, then splitting the coax run, and it would be perfectly fine.

The only other way to reliably run a signal that far would be to use one of those baluns which converts the signals into something that can be sent over a twisted pair wire and then translated back at the other end. You'll still end up with issues of splitting a low-power RCA signal to that many TV's.

If you really need RCA connections on some TV's, then use another converter to turn the RF back into an RCA signal, serving only a few of the sets.

I have used this in the past and it works very well. You can daisy chain multiple units to accommodate your needs.

So, you are telling me that he would rather deal with several RCA cables at each TV and getting them right rather than a SINGLE "F" connector? :bang: Sounds like he is being difficult to me.

I'm sure Radio Shack has push-on adapters so that he doesn't have to screw the connectors on. I've used them on test equipment cables for 30 years.

How long does it take to screw on an F connector -- 5 seconds?

We do use simple push-in coax connectors for all general TV work over here though. They've been the standard practically since the start of television:

Radio Shack sells this adapter which screws onto your cable and friction fits on the TV, I've also seen patch cables with the push-on connector pre-installed. I'm sure other vendors must have the same.
