Hello everybody. I have a customer who would like to network at least two, and possibly three or four sites together. All locations have Telrad PBX with E2E software. None have IP phones or TVSE cards. We don't want or need IP phones but would like the advantages of networking the systems. I am thinking that a TVSE at each location with a partial T of MPLS would be the best way to go. If anyone has a better way or can advise on trunk licensing, vocoders, etc. i would appreciate it as some of that is not very clear to me. Thanks in advance

Let me say 3 things that are very important

1) Check the Network
2) Check the Network Again
3) Check the Network Again and Again and Again....

Now with that taken care of did you check the Network to make sure you have the band width?

Can you see a pattern smile I have several TVSe to TVSe networks in place and only one I call my problem child. And guess what it's a Network issue.
I will be more than happy to help you with the needs for licenses equipment and all around general info. My contact info in in my profile or PM or email me.

IP sip trunk networking works really well on the Telrad System. I have a couple also out there and I never have a problem. Just make sure you get the right licensing. You need the IP networking license and vocoders licenses. Don't get it confused with sip trunk licenses.

I also believe you have to be at least release 3.13 on your IPEX or MPD2 cards and 3.48 TVSE.

You can't be on an MPD 128 card with a memory cartridge. But you can upgrade a 400 card. Just check with Telrad first I could be wrong.

Good Luck and the ip networking does work extremely well.

Thanks for the input. Another thing i thought about is that these locations are on an MPLS VPN network. I am guessing i would program the "inside" and "outside" addresses of the TVSE and vocoders to be the same. As long as routing is set up properly i should be okay, right?

There is a lot more programming to be done for networking than just setting the ip addresses. This is not a program to take on without proper training or tech support. And make sure both or all 4 system are the same level software and really they should all be 3.13. FYI 10.4 is just around the corner but 3.13 is tried and tested :thumb:

Gotcha. I have had training two years ago and have access to Telrad tech support. I am trying to get refreshed make sure to cover all the bases to avoid being responsible for a complete cluster****. With all up-to-date software levels, a good network, adequate vocoders and vocoder and network licenses, i should have a good start. Now to find my TVSe to TVSe networking notes. Thank you again for all the input.

When renumbering networked systems should all dn's be renumbered or just extensions.

Ex. Site1 extensions are 1000 series
Site2 extensions are 2000 series

Should VM hunt group that was 500 at Site1 be 1500? Should trunks be changed from 801 to 1801 or does it matter?

You have over 100 Stations at each site?

I usually leave the VM alone and set up a ext CFA to a SSP. That way where ever the end user is they dial 500 for VM.
