Well, I have the software, it is the same as Stratagy pretty much but I also downloaded it from Amanda's website. If anyone knows how to make a direct null modem connection I would appreciate it. The software I have requires a dos connection thru com port 1 or 2, win modems do not allow anything but com 3.

I installed an AMANDA and set it up for rmote programming, all I did was install an external modem with the db25 cable enclosed and connected it to a phone line. Works fine. I stopped selling AMANDA products because they NOW charge for tech support, even if you purchase the vm from them.
Not good business politics. It is best to stick with toshiba's vm for toshiba.

Have you been advised that the password is case sensitive? Make sure you enter the password exactly: AMandA. The "AM" are capital letters, the "and" in lower case and the last "A" is a capital letter. If it still does not work, the password has been changed in the setup. If so, when you start the system, do not bootup Amanda, go to the C: prompt and go to the Amanda directory. Type setup and go to the 4th option...System Parameters or integration. I know it's the last option or the one at the very bottom. After you choose it, it will show you General or Advance. You can change the password in both menus, but you have to look harder in general, because its half way down a list. In Advance, I believe there is a setting for password, if not, go thru each item and you'll find it. Once you find it, change it to the default of "AMandA".
I haven't remotely logged into an Amanda in awhile, but it works best with the Boca Modem 14400. The system seems to like the standard protocal of this modem and of course the speed. This was also the standard modem provided by TAA about 5 years ago. If you can find one, give it a shot.
