if memory serves me the DN is your extension number or Directory Number and the phantom is another extension number that can be used to send a call to your set or say your DID is different than your extension number, you can send the DID to the phantom which can appear on your phone so you can answer it.

Dont forget SDN (secondary directory number) this is some other ext DN on your phone.
