Not sure where to post this, but was just wondering if there's anyone else in the DC area that was affected by a Verizon fiber cut yesterday. The Verizon field tech I spoke with said that two OC-48 circuits and one OC-192 were cut around noon yesterday. My company was without Internet service for about 9 hours yesterday. Ouch.

The frustrating thing about this is that when I called Verizon the first several times I asked specifically if there was a major outage anywhere. They kept telling me "No". I'd say that an OC-192 would qualify as major.

Steve:

I just checked our logs from yesterday's work load. We had one outage in Chevy Chase, MD and one in Reston, VA. Both customers are using a CLEC with their switch located on Connecticut Avenue in Northwest DC. In both instances, the circuits were back up and running by the time our technicians arrived. These may be a coincidence, but I can certainly see how the outage that you experienced could be related.

Thanks Ed. This is the second time in a month that a fiber cut has hosed our connection for a good chunk of a business day. That said, I can only remember one other instance in the last 6 years where we've had an issue on that line. Not too bad overall.

I lost my internet during the same time. I'm located in southern Delaware. I'd say an OC 192 qualifies as a major outage. Looks like someone didn't look into the diverse routing very carefully.
