You have a bad hookswitch! This is absolutely the most prototypical description of what happens when a hookswitch goes bad on a Toshiba EKT telephone that I think I have ever read...
Send it to us, we will fix it.

Although not as notoriously bad as the DKT 2000 series, the EKT telephones also have crummy hookswitches.

replacing the hookswitches is a very simple task....

go to: www.refurbsupplies.com and pick up and a couple for a few bucks and solder them in...takes 'bout 5 minutes....why ship em out to a repair facility and pay shiping charges and repair charges........

Ship it to repair. Your time is worth it. And one little slip with the soldering iron and then you need a new phone.

Mitch,
I admit that for someone with the proper equipement and skills, it is an easy task. However, one of our best customers is a Toshiba dealer that used to do his hook switch repairs in house. Then he added up how much it cost him to pay the skilled tech, maintain the soldering and desoldering equipment, buy the solder, etc... He figured out that it was cheaper by far to send them to us than to do it in house.

some people do their own repairs or field modifications and some dont have the time.

I presented 2 views, the end-user has the choice......

Mitch,
Of course you are correct. Someone with the skills and the equipment can do this. I just cringe when I think about end-users trying to fix their own telephones. You should see some of the telephones that people have tried to fix on their own, then sent to us much more screwed up than they were to begin with....
The best one was a Partner Euro 18D that came to us in a box completely disassembled, and I do mean completely...

with the economy as it is....many companies are trying to cut corners and feel that if its a simple repair and they can cut costs they attempt to do it themselves...

I guess the saying "you can teach an old dog new tricks" or someting like that applies to the telcom industry...

You should see the things people do to their inside wiring in their homes in order to avoid placing service calls....

OH WELL....my clock is ticking, 363 days till retirement from the phone biz...CANT WAIT....
