i have a customer with a 2 cabinet dk280
in the first cabinet is 4- pdku /1- rstu for stand alone mail/ 1- rcou
second cabinet is 2-rcou /1- rdtu t1 card
i am not the first in so they put in 3 -rcou for 12 co lines
they need to 1-2 pdku for stations
i heard it wasnt recommended to put cards in after the t1 card and i had to put the piou in slot 26 which 2 away from t1

i could pick up a slot with a rcos on 1st rcou and put 1-pdku in s22
butim thinking it would mess up ext with t1
so s11/12/13/14 are pdku
s15 rstu
s16 rcou
s21 rcou
s22rcou
s23 rdtu
s24/25/ empty
s26 piou
any suggestions

I have not installed one. From the book:
If a 16 channel rdtu is installed in expansion cabinet number 2 the allowable slots are 21, 23, or 25. No slot must be vacant, however it will not be possible to turn on channels 17-24 later to add more T1 lines unless the next slot after the rdtu card is left vacant. If the T1 is in 23 you would only need to leave 24 vacant
to take full advantage of the card. Once again I have not installed a rdtu.

JBW is right. Slot 24 has to remain vacant if the T-1 has more than 16 channels active. If this system is level 3 or older, the t-1 card takes up 8 station ports. That does not become an issue unless there are PDKU's or RSTU's after the RDTU.

You won't pick up a slot just by removing an RCOS. That is a piggy-back card on the RCOU. If you remove any RCOU or RCOS cards, the Trunk port numbers will change on the T-1.

Are any of the RCOU cards still in use? Normally, when a customer switches from copper trunks to a T-1, the RCOU's are removed (or un-programmed).

Important....Do the RCOU's have the RCOS's attached (making them 8 port cards)? Lets get that answered before we go any further.

Call me. I'm home today.
