Hello All,

I currently have a Viking RAD-1A going to a Bogen amp and speaker. The problem is, in order to trigger it, it requires a ring signal.

What I need to do is page out an existing call on a line that is already in use. This to allow others to hear the conversation out the PA. I was thinking something that could trigger via a dtmf may be the way to go.

Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated!

Can't you just call then conference-in the port with the Viking on it? I suppose I should ask if this is on a system.

Both Sandman and Viking have DTMF controlled relays that sit on a line in parallel and simply listen for a particular DTMF code, then activate a relay.

Great idea. I talked to viking and the RC-2A will accomplish this well.

This now leads to the next question...

Now that there is a way to activate a relay on an already active line, how then would I be able to "turn on" the PA when I see no such way to do so on the Bogen TPU-15A.

I was actually thinking of directly connecting the phone line to the PA input, but put in series the relay, so it remains open until time of closure. What I'm afraid of is, noise on the line when open.

You still haven't said if this is an extension on a system or a POTS line on an analog phone.

Is the PA speaker powered or is it passive? The PA speaker I have hooked up takes 24VDC and the audio signal on separate pairs. I have a relay inline with the power, which is triggered by the phone system.

To accomplish what you want, you might need to use the Viking relay to trigger a secondary relay which has at least 2 poles, one pole to control the power and another pole to control the audio signal.

Hal.. I missed that, I'm planning off running it off of an Avaya Partner ASC analog port. (r7). The line then going to a single line phone. (not a digital station phone)

Rob, The amp is a Bogen tpu-15a. I'm running the audio to the tip and ring spots on the amp, and the output will be 70V to the 70V Speaker.

Thanks!

I hate to be a spoil-sport, but I think you're going to find the audio levels to be a problem. Typically the local side of the conversation will seem to be 3-4 times louder than the distant side. frown John C. (Not Garand)

I'm planning off running it off of an Avaya Partner ACS analog port.

Simple. Have the call on a line, press CONF, intercom (or program a DSS button) for the extension with the RAD-1A on it. When it picks up press CONF again. Now you, the outside caller and the PA are conferenced.

Helps to know how the system you are working with works, eh?

Still would want a relay in there somewhere... otherwise the speaker will have a constant background hiss.

Sandman has another relay circuit that simply triggers based on the presence of ANY audio signal, no DTMF required.... So as long as the amp's station line is receiving audio, the relay will be triggered.
