I have a DK40i that had caller id going to 1 line. I did not like the delay it took for the phone to start ringing and I have used a caller ID box at my extension for years to get the caller ID data(my phone does not ring so data would not show). My installer has disabled caller ID and I have pulled the TCIU2A card from the unit. My problem is if we answer the ringing extension just after the 1st ring but before the 2nd ring we get a fax tone type noise. I still want caller ID so I get the data on my caller ID box next to my desk.
Is there anything I can do to eliminate the noise???
Thanks for your help. This is a great forum.

CID digits are delevered between the first and second ring. ie the reason for the delay on the DK so you wouldnt hear the digits being sent. Your just to fast for your own good. [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]

Is there a way or a device to capture the CID tones before they get to the phone system?

Get a CID display unit from Radio Shack and hard wire it to Line 1 ahead of the system........

I do not believe that there is going to be any way for you to get caller ID info at any point in the line without having the CID info noise transmitted between the first and second rings. That is just the way it works.
I would say that the easiest way to not get the noise is to allow the phone to ring a second time before you pick it up. Relax, slow down, have a sip of coffee....

You can remove the co line appearances and replace them with pool keys or Phantoms. this will delay the ringing and the appearance on the pool keys if you have the no flash/no ring programmed.

Wouldn't that put him back in the same position that he was in where it will cause a delay in the ringing? he stated that as the reason for doing this with an external box in the first place.

The caller would hear the first ring but the telephone sets wouldnt show the line button "red" . the end user can only look down and see the second ring flashing green on the pool key and be able to pick it up on the first ring on the set. It kinda hides the red solid lit LED during that first ring cycle where the CLID info is being obtained. Unless the customer is calling themselves they dont know that the line has already rang one cycle.

Thanks for your imput. Paul you are correct. That solution would put me back to where I was with the caller Id. My problem with the caller ID is that it rings 2 times on the callers end before the 1st ring on my phone and if it takes me 3-4 rings to answer it has already rung 5 to 6 times on the clients phone. We will just have to pick up after the 2nd ring so we don't get the noise.
