I'm looking for suggestions on what settings to use for the Voice Packet Configuration for VoIP phones.

Here are my current settings.

All of our VoIP users are on basic DSL and cable connections.

Whenever they are sending an e-mail or uploading a file, their voice quality gets choppy.

Thanks

Tell the user to either go easy on internet access while on the phone or increase their bandwidth from the provider.

I face the same thing when I connect from my home DSL line too.

I don't have much experience in tweaking the voice packet config, but I know that the G711 codec corresponds to voice packet config Table 1 and G729A to Table 2.

For DSL or lower bandwidth, G729 might work better. When using G729, set the voice packet config table number to "2". The settings here will auto correspond to the G729 codec. Slight improvement only.

Alternatively is to purchase a router that supports 802.1p, where u can set Traffic Prioritization for voice channels. Where I'm at, I've not seen any device that supports the 802.1p around.

Leave the settings at default. I've never had a problem. I had a customer use 15 IPT's on a DSL connection (no PC's)!!
