Hi all,
The IS team where I work has been tasked with integrating an Asterisk PBX into our existing Perception Ex phone system. So far, we are about 60% successful. Given that we are mostly network and PC geeks, not telecom gurus, I think we're doing pretty good so far.
Here's what we have setup. On the Perception, we have an NSTU card that connects to an FXO/FXS card in the Asterisk. The NSTU card has 2 ports configured with DNs (not sure if that was necessary or not). We have 2 pairs of wires, one pair for each of the FXO/FXS ports, going into the first 2 ports on the NSTU card.
From any voip phone, we can dial any 3-digit extension and connect to any phone on the Perception system. The asterisk uses 4-digit extensions, so this was an easy routing rule to setup.
From any Perception-based phone, we can dial the extension of the FXS-connected NSTU port, and it will connect to the Asterisk and the auto-attendant (on the Asterisk) will answer.
NOTE: It looks to us like the systems are only using the FXS line, and ignoring the FXO line. We are not sure why this is.
Anyway, back to the real problem. We want to setup the Perception, so that a person only has to dial 8 and then a 4-digit extension to connect to any Asterisk-based voip phone.
We *think* we need to setup a trunk group with an access code of 8, and then setup a trunk connected to that group. But after doing this (and deleting the extensions on the NSTU card in order to create the trunk), nothing works in either direction. In fact we are not even sure if this can be done with an NSTU card -- do we need an NCOU or some other card, in order to get this all going?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Dave

Dave If your asterick system can give out analog..Set up those analogs in to the perception as trunks...You will need a ncou card Ex: perception dials 8 , gets asterick dial tone, then dial the 4 or 3 digit ext.
