these seem like they should be easy to figure out, but i've been poring over them for days now...
(a) stratagy - on our old vm system (strata dk, i think?), once you had said your name in the mailbox setup, the transfer message would say "please hold while i transfer you to ___" and then it would playback the recorded name. the stratagy just says, "please hold while i try that extension". is there a way to make it use the name like the old system?
(b) cix100 - i added a secondary DN for our front desk phone (100) on button 4, so that anyone can pick up that line if the receptionist is away from her desk. it works fine, except... if i push button 4 (i.e.: from my desk), it will pick up the line and i can dial out. i want to only be able to pick up that line if its ringing.
thanks in advance, i appreciate it!

for (b) a call pickup would probably work better. If there is a button on the phone, and they have access to a trunk (ie, to answer the phone) then they can call out on it, unless you set the ILG, but no OLG for the trunks. or enable destination restrictions on the trunks.
#5#5 for Direct terminal #5#34 for group pickup #5#9 for any external calls
Or set a night mode with all the phones ringing when Recept is away.

hi newtecky,
using a the call pickup was my first idea (#5#5[OPER EXT]), but there was no notification as to what extension was ringing. using the secDN let me blink all of the other phones, so people knew that what they were hearing (from anywhere) was the operator and someone*anyone* should grab it.
i thought about setting the OLG to 0 for the CO line, but if someone was on that line, then it would make the button available again yes? but i can't set all the lines to OLG = 0 or no one would be able to dial out...?
thanks!

I've been doing Toshiba tech work for only less then a year. I check out this board for new ideas on how to do things. Two of the many things I found out is: 1) There are many ways to accomplish a desired result. Sometimes you have to get a little creative to get there. 2) A complete solution requires people programming. I like to make things as idiot proof as possible, but there are always new, and better idiots. Keeping it as simple as possible is best. Still sometimes you can't make the system work exactly like the customers want.
That being said, I am not completely sure of how your system is set up, IE.. do they dial 9 for lcr, or do they select a line, or pooled line keys. Do the line DIT to the operator, or just ring on line apperances.
Again, I am not an expert (yet) on the CTX, but off the top of my head, you can:
Use pooled line keys. They will ring on incomming calls. If you press it for outgoing, it would select a line based on the OLG hunt order.
Use Day Night mode. If the operator is away, then another set of extensions could be set to ring.
Use Multiple Call groups (MCG) with a delayed ringing to another extension.
Ring to Phantom DNs. They work like intecom buttons. If they selected the PHDN (tell them not too), then they would have to dial 9 for an outside call anayway.
Use a VM with Auto Attendant for overflow.
Set a Call Foward button to be used when the operator is away.
I'm sure there are many other ways to do what you want. I would be curious to see how others would do it.

newtecky - thanks for the tips. several of these i am already using for different scenarios (MCGs with delayed ringing are my best friend at the moment). people programming is still the hardest!
