I have a CIX670 with a Stratagy iES16. I have some users that are using company cell phones for international calls (EXPENSEIVE!!). I'd like them to be able to take advantage the long distance rates I have on my office landlines.

Is it possible to setup an extension to request the number they want to dial and then the system takes over, does a flash on the line and dials the number they inputted? Or can I setup an extension to do a flash on the line and leave the user with a dial tone?

Sure, lots of systems can do that. It's usually through the use of the DISA feature, where a local number is called, the system answers with dial tone, they enter a password, then dial the call out regularly. DISA stands for Direct Inward System Access.

Thanks for the response Ed. I did some reading and as I understand it - DISA requires that one line be permanently used. I don't expect the usage to be very high so it isn't cost effective for me to tie up one line for this. Do you know of another solution?

I don't really know your system, so I can't answer with certainty. I was just speaking in general terms. With the systems we sell, we usually only program a single line (or two) to function as DISA at night. Oh, and yes, our systems can create a flash on the line. I just can't say for sure about Toshiba.

Usually in a case like yours, the cell phone users just call in to the office during the day and have someone manually dial the international call for them using unsupervised conference or Centrex (flash) transfers. The DISA is only used at night on an automatic day/night schedule.

Ed's second idea will work. Have the user call into the attendant during the day and they can be transferred manually. At night the Toshiba will have one line for DISA use. Sounds like a solution.

How much do your overseas calls cost? You could get a Voip line for about USD$20, two for USD$40 and put that(them) in a line pool with DISA access. Voip providers are very cheap on overseas calls, ours is 8 cents to Israel. If that(those) trunk(s) are busy, they could call the operator.

Your tech could add on a voip line or two, program and voila, you are talking overseas without tying up your regular lines.

Thanks for all the suggestions. The DISA on night service only would work. We do a lot of calling to China, Mexico, and Germany. Our area doesn't have great highspeed Internet service so I'm not even going touch VoIP for awhile.
