newtecky,
I did see that jumper behind the LED. I will use the bottom port and remove the jumper. I did not want to mess with the jumper without knowing its purpose. Thanks

If you don't have the I & M manual for the Stratagy DK you can download it from this link:

https://pdf.textfiles.com/manuals/TELECOM-S-Z/Toshiba%20Stratagy%20DK%20Voice%20Mail.pdf

The DK uses a slower baud rate to communicate. Max speed and default is 9600. The lower port COM1 is the correct one for Hyperterminal access. As newtecky pointed out, the J4 jumper behind LED3 needs to be removed for Hyperterminal monitoring and interrupting with ctrl-c to get the dos prompt. I apologize for assuming you had a Stratagy Flash which has a different bootup sequence, different baud rate and which also uses COM2 for Hyperterminal monitoring.

Good luck!

66block,
Nice link to the manual. At one time we had a more complete set of manuals but I have only succeded in finding a partial set so far.
I think I have a clear picture now of how to proceed (We'll see if it's still clear after I try it out on Monday :-) )
Thanks for the help.

Hello All,

Well, it worked!
Used:
-The bottom port (not the top port for the admin program)
-Used the same cable (null modem I believe) as for the admin program
-Removed the jumper on J4 behind LED3
-Hyperterminal at 9600 n81 no flow control
-Ctl-C during startup
-Ran c:\sat\killtime to deal with what I assume is a watchdog timer

Works great - back to the glory days of DOS and 9600 baud smile

Thanks again, everybody, for all your help!
