I would like to put the LIPU on a private IP address and still access it via the public internet (using external IP Phone).
I only have 1 public fixed IP thats shared between my CCTV and IP phone applications. The CCTV works fine, but the IP phones cannot connect to the LIPU.
I understand from Toshiba that the LIPU doesn't support NAT and port forwarding, and I've also tested and found it to be true.
Why not?!
What about other IP PBX systems? I'm sure Cisco, Avaya and others are able to support NAT and port forwarding.

Can't you just get from your ISP provider another public IP address?

If you want some reading, try: https://www.newport-networks.com/whitepapers/nat-traversal1.html The problem lies in the fact that the IP address in the data stream are changed to match the local IP subnet. The signaling, which sets up the communcation, has different IP addressing info, because it was not changeed by the router in the NAT process. Older versions of BIPU had said that the IP phones could also not be behind NAT. Now they can be. I've never heard of anyone getting Toshiba VOIP to work behind NAT, unless you set up a VPN. I'm not sure about other systems, but I would imagine they will run into simular problems if using NAT.

Thanks for the reply.
Where I'm at, we live in trees, so getting another IP address would require laying more cable from the local exchange. (jkidding)
I've done some reading and found that NAT might pose voice problems.
Talked to the Toshiba dudes in Asia, sorry, no NAT for IP Phones.
*sigh*
