I have a CTX100 with a Strata DK424 VM system. We are using the auto attendant feature on the VM system and I have set up a multiple ring group so that if the caller presses 0 at anytime, it will ring about 6 phones in the front office. The problem is that the people at those 6 phones can't tell if the call is coming in from a caller pressing 0 or from a caller intentionally choosing their extension. Both calls will display the same extension - the extension of the auto attendant - on the LCD display. Is there anyway to change the ring tone so they can differentiate where the call is coming from or is there a better way to set this up?

In autoattendant, add 'H' to the end of the extension field of 0.

The other option is to have calls ring a phantom button on these 6 phones instead of their direct extensions.

I like the phantom button idea, but i don't know how to set that up using WinAdmin.

You could put phantom DN's (Secondary DN's) on each of the 6 phones, put them in their own multiple call group, have 0 ring that group, and make the PhDN's ring differently in programming through WinAdmin. Right? I've done it with the bigger systems but I don't work on 100's too much so I don't know the capabilities. Give it a shot.

If you have trunk appearances on these phones, then the ring tones applied to the trunk appearances take precedence over the ring tones of the PhDNs unless the VM performs a supervised transfer to the PhDN. For a supervised transfer, make sure that you change the internal ring tone of the PhDN to something other than 01. But, if you choose to have a supervised transfer from VM then the user who answers the call will complain about having to say hello twice to the caller.

Actually, phonemeister, I have found that users will complain no matter what you do. So do whatever's easiest, then put your phone on DND!
