Hello guys,

First time posting.

We have recently purchased a new CIX phone system, with an IP card, and IP phone, and one softphone. I have been pulling my hair out tring to get this setup properly. It has turned out to be way more of a paint than i anticipated.

Heres the scenario:

My office has two DSL lines, one primary and one secondary. The primary line has a block of 5 "sticky static" IPs from our ISP. These are not true "static" addrs because the modem actually uses PPoE for the authentification, which is dynamic in nature. I am using Zyxel 645 modem/routers on both DSL lines.

Since i am well aware that the MIPUs dont play nice with NAT (trial and error hell) i have put a switch between the modem and my firewall. The MIPU card is also plugged into this switch. I have set up the zyxel modem for address mapping to map one of my 5 public IPs to a private IP on the modems LAN subnet.

With this setup, I still cant get the IPT to work. any suggestions?

thanks

JC

I dont think your scenario is going to work. Why dont you assign one of the public IP's directly to the MIPU card and connect it to the switch outside the firewall.

RRino is right. That is the proper set-up.

Of course, if your ISP changes the IP address it will stop workong.....

If you have anything other then a public IP entered in the CIX for the MIPU, it will not work (to work on the Internet).

You may have to make sure that any NAT or router s built into the modem are disabled and only passes public IPs to the inside network, to your MIPU and to another router (If you need NAT for the other PCs).

I had to do this at a site, and add a router. The DSL modem was the router, but I hcould not get a public IP to pass thru, so I had to disable the router functions.

Basically I'm just repeating the above 2 posts, but with more words.

Where are the ip phones going? are they stationary in an off site office or will they be moving around like with a sales person on the road and pluging in at a hotel's broadband connection. If it's the first option you can set-up a tunnel for the offsite office
