I have Partner ACS units in homes.

One customer was irate by the telemarketers.

We created a night button ring group to Zero rings. An on off feature.

Now it hits the AA. We created a ring group to 72 in the AA

72 was not given out only to those who needed to reach him.

The result is when calling, group 72 is dialed when the AA picks up an alerts him that someone knew the group setting. In affect it was a pass code to ring all phones. Something a telemarketer can't do. A stupid way to do it but it works.

Radio Shack made a device years ago that would answer the phone and ask for a password it wouldn't let the call continue unless they entered the password. I have a couple of those setting on the shelf.

This actually isn't a bed idea, however I would like to record my own message. Don't want to be rude, would like to tell the person they have dialed the wrong number. So I think I have to stick with my original answering machine and switch idea.

Did a little research and it seems that a Viking DVA-LP would give me the ability to play a message and hang up the line when finished. I also like the Viking MOH-2L because it lets me press the * key to activate it, then I can hang up. So I guess what I am looking for is something that will let me answer the wrong number, press *, start playing a pre-recorded message while I hang up the phone, finish the message, then hang up the line. That's all! Any ideas?

One wrong call a day... Like SSPhone said, answer it and tell them they have a wrong number. If it's a solicitor, tell them to stop calling. If you have the time, strike up a conversation with them. I’ve talked with many interesting people when one of us dialed a wrong number.
