I am a receptionist that just started working for several lawyers. I am using a DKT2020-SD phone. They have had a falling out with one of the lawyers. I was told to change the nighttime message. I was also told that they would like a daytime message.
They have no manual. They have given me no other information other than see what you can find on the net. It seems that the lawyer that did know a little more about how things work is the one who left.
*pulls hair out*
I am also unable to send to VM when they are actually on the phone.

Toshiba programming is far from simple, especially when you are getting into voice mail integration. You will need to find out what system you have (the phone model you cited can be used on many different systems. By far your best bet is to pay a qualified Toshiba technician to come out and set it up for you as well as provide some training on the administration of the system. In the long run it will save you hours (or days) of stress and aggravation. Given how most lawyers I have met are, they will likely balk at the cost, but if they want you to do this for cheap, ask them how much a full week of your time costs, not to mention the risk of shutting down the entire system for days (no phones) from having someone unqualified messing with it. Ask them if they would like you to look for a manual on repairing their BMW while you are at it so you can do that too.
