First let me start by saying I am a data guy. I know enough to cause problems. We have a CTX 100 with an old (early 90's) Strategy Voice mail. My problem is our conference phone (analog line) stopped working last week. I have tried other phone and other lines and it is the line. I have used a toner and there is connectivity to the CTX. The phone (Polycom Sound Station 2) just beeps and says incoming call. The line connects to a BSTU Card. This card is what connects to our voice mail box. The voice mail works. We have been having problems for about 6 months with occasional "Invalid extension" when you transfer a call or try to check your voice mail. I can access the CTX through eManager 5.00A14. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know what other information is needed.

I would try testing the analog port at the block by the phone system and work your way to the station.

Do you have a test set of any kind, or the ability to connect where the ports are terminated?

Make sure the cable connected to the BSTU is firmly connected to the card, as they sometimes come loose if the bracket is not tightened all the way.

If you would like some local help feel free to email or PM me

I would agree with MacOSX try testing the analog port at the block and check the cable connected to the BSTU to make sure it is plugged in completely.

I have a test set. I connected it to the block and I receive a dial tone, but when I call my cell phone I hear it ring on the test set but my cell does not ring.

I'm wondering if the message waiting feature is set on this station. Go offhook on your test set on that port and dial #409 and see if that helps.

Great idea... MSG notify could be making the Polycom get false ringing.

Any more info on the "invalid ext" error?

Phonemeister you are the man. 100 cool points to you. What ever #409 does that fixed the problem. Was that line set to message? What does #409 do? I'll look it up. Thanks again.

The long explanation...

Any digital or analog port can have an internal meassaging feature turned on or off.

The internal messaging feature work in this way :
Station "A" calls station "B" and before station A hangs up, they hit their MSG (message) key, which in turn activates the message light at station B.

On a digital phone there is a physical button and LED that goes along with this feature.

On an analog port, there are one of two ways to know its been turned on :
1. There is stutter tone on that analog port, when you go off-hook.
2. By using a single line phone with message waiting light, you can visibly see it flash off/on.

On any station (digital or analog) you can turn off the feature by going off hook and dialing #409.

On a digital phone, you can also turn it off by pressing the MSG key and having the called station and the calling station lifting their handsets, so the phone system sees they have talked, therefore turning off the MSG light.

Hope that wasn't too boring wink

MacOSX great detailed synopsis of the MSG light/button feature. Do you know if this feature can be disabled on a specific port? I would rather not have the ability to activate the msg light on Fax lines.
