My understanding that VOIP is good for corporations with multi sites or remote locations connecting to corp.
Can you have VOIP as you main trunks? vs a PRI
We do not have remote users and do not need to connect to our corp.
We have a 1 pri connecting our CTX 670 to the outside word, The bean counters want to see if a VOIP solution would reduce cost.
Would you want to? Would some one give me the basic rundown?

SIP Trunking is available from CBeyond in the Atlanta market. Toshiba has worked with CBeyond and sent out an announcement of the SIP trunking release on 12/12/07.
Since the integration is new we have yet to do and install of SIP trunks. Toshiba says you need a license for SIP trunks as well as an MIPU, and of course your carrier and service will need to change.
I would be happy to discuss this further off line.

I was under the impression that release version 3.1 makes the CTX into and CIX. I need to review my product bulletins, but I remember there being an upgrade path.

Correct. You will have to upgrade the processor and purchase an MIPU (Ip interface card).

To further Shawn's point, you must have an R4 processor with the latest R5 software to use the MIPU with SIP trunking.

SIP trunking works very well on the CIX.

I have heard the CBeyond charges the same for PRI or SIP trunk. but at least you don't need to get all 23 channels, but you will need a good Internet connection.
We conected a few SIP trunks to a CIX in our office. As mentioned, you need the latest software with an MIPU card with latest firmware.
Older prcessors can not be upgraded to Ver 5.XX.

Yes, you can have SIP trunks as your main trunks.
After adding the initial costs and monthly service fees, SIP may not be more economical.
If you choose to go with SIP trunking, CBeyond has worked closely with Toshiba's SIP development team and will be your best choice for a SIP provider.
