We are a small law firm, looking to purchase a new telephone system. We have had a lot of telephones recommended to us, from the Aspire to the NEC DSX to the Vodavi. By way of background, we presently have an Avaya partner system which we are not too happy with.
We are looking for a 10-phone system (which can be slightly upgraded), capable of handling between 6 and 10 lines with unified messaging capabilities. Can anyone comment on the differences between the Vodavi systems and the NEC (realizing this is a Vodavi thread) or any other suggestions and whether the Vodavi would suit our needs.

The Vodavi XTSc will certainly fulfill your needs ASSUMING that the system proposed will include their "in-skin" Pathfinder voice mail system. You could probably squeak by with their STSe due to your system's size, but the ability to expand into VoIP won't be supported by that product. No sense in cutting corners there since technology
As we tend to say time and time again, it really isn't the product itself, it is the quality of the dealer that should be of the most importance. Check references up and down. You are entering into a "marriage" with the dealer, so by far, this relationship is more important than anything else.
If you want product reviews, I'm sure that many of us here will provide you with references from some of our own customers in other parts of the country. That's probably a good thing to consider just so that you understand the product itself.
To gain better exposure, I'm going to move your post into our "general" category.

As an Avaya Busness Partner I would like to know why you are unhappy with your Partner system? It certainly is capable of doing everything you want and then some. You already own it, and if you were my customer and wanted me to sell you a brand new system I would ask you to investigate going that route first. I don't know what Partner you have but whatever it is it can be upgraded for a nominal cost (if it needs to be) compared to a whole new system.

Ditto what Hal said. How old is the Partner you using now? Sounds like you might have had a poor installer. The Partner ACS is known world-wide as being one of the most feature rich and durable systems out there for small office use.

I agree with keeping the Partner system. Avaya systems are everywhere and the equipment is not really expensive. If the Partner is not one of the older At&T systems you should be good to go. Married to a dealer is funny. I have been installing phones for quite awhile and about fifty percent of the people I service I never see again, they just find someone on line (yellow pages). The rest of the customer base I have never call anyone else and have to work hard to keep them.
