just trying to understand the DKiAdmin software setup....as I understand it, it does not really what computer you install it on as it is just talking serially to the box on the wall, but, you have to have that key thing in the parallel port on the back or it won't work...
Is the setup on another computer as easy as just copying the files as they are on this computer and making sure the dongle on the back is in an enabled parallel port? and wired up the same way??
Basically, I want to know how this works so if and when they computer it is running on takes a dump before the entire system gets upgraded, I will know and be able to quickly get it back up...well, I guess for all intents and purposes, this computer with the DKiAdmin is only needed really for making changes so the normal immediacy is not really there....
He'p me understand!

There is a new version out that does not require the dongle key. Toshiba has released this new version since they do not support the older systems anymore.
I don't know if you can just copy the 280Admin directory to the new computer. I've never tried it. I believe the safest way is to have the installation disks available and use them. Its a DOS based program. Nothing special. I've used it on everything from WIN95 all the way to XP Pro.
There is a copy function that allows you to backup the data to a floppy, then restore it to the DK. But, if your pc "bites it", the best thing for you to do is to install it on a new PC and just back it up again.
Any more questions, just let us know.

Most DOS software I have seen run fine by just copying the files. There is not a system directory or registry or anything like that. Sometimes the directory name has to be the same. Most installations just copy the files and may add an item in the autoexe or config files.
I installed the new DK Admin, but I have never used it.

If you already have a copy of DKAdmin installed on your computer you can update to the new version and retain your old databases.
