dk280/IVP8 - replaced IVP8, now cannot 'direct message'
just had the IVP8 replaced and we re-recorded everything yesterday, now, one of the operations people tell me they can no longer directly transfer to voicemail...
vm button set to direct station 088 (=ext 300=vm) then they would press a system speed dial (set to 699) which had the number of 998...seems as though all this was setup to dial extension 998, however, the system seems to be recognizing that leading nine as 'give me an outside line'....
I checked the box_snd and it is set to 8, 998 exists and is labelled direct message (set to user id 998 but there is nothing saved in the extension field, store msgs set to no)....
needless to say I have poked around here and tried the few things I have seen and I cannot get it to do anything else....
I don't think but am not sure, that we had the inside line determining that a leading 9 was to get an outside line, but I can't say I ever tried to the best of my knowledge...
HELP!

I can't comprehend it. 998 ID for system Day Greeting as far as I remember and Idon't remember that DK-280 can Transfer direct into VM.

Its cumbersome. You have to hit CNF/TRN than hit the DSS key for VM, wait for greeting, hit your 998 auto dial button, wait for prompt, dial ext, and hang-up. It is not as long as it sounds, but it could be easier. Many times I program a one touch menu key in box 990/991 to route to box 998 the when VM answers, they only have to dial the menu key, then the mailbox. Still many steps, I think they addressed this with the CTX.

I am pretty sure that is how I tested both with the shortcut keys and manually and I kept ending up with the system thinking that leading 9 of the 998 was to grab an outside line...I know in the manual scenario I recall seeing the lcd readig 98 when I was doing this....I think that is where the hangup is but not sure..I will check the shortcut key scenario for what it reads on the lcd, tomorrow when I get back to work.....

It sounds like they would press the voicemail, wait for the voicemail to answer, then press the speeddial which enters 998, then they enter the mailbox number.
If you just dial 998, then the phone system will think you are dialling 9 for an outside line. If you dialed the voicemail first and wait for it to answer, then 998 is the voicemail box for direct send. which asks for the extension umber you want to leave a message for.
Maybe you should verify that the voicemail actually answers when you press the voicemai button (ext 300). If it does, THEN press the speed dial key, which enters 998.
The phone system thinks you are dialling 9 for outside line, then 98. The voicemail has a mailbox 998 and knows what to do when you dial it froom the main menu.
I have setup a box # 8, with an extension of @G(998) to make a shortcut to 998. Menu option looks like another good alternative.

phone guru shot me this in an email, I remoted in to a box at work, then remoted to the laptop that runs uadmin and did as he suggested:
Get in the voicemail system
Alt U
990
Alt G
Under option 9 enter in 998
just have to test out tomorrow morning when I get in....
It's a little late, but I am pretty sure what you stated newtecky, is what I did, but will reconfirm tomorrow.
on the last suggestion you posted, what exactly do you mean by the @G(998)? Create mailbox 8 and group/chain it to 998?
I think that is what he had me do above with 990 and 991, no? if so, what's the difference?

tested out the instructions that were emailed to me and nothing seems to have changed, ie, when person tries the transfer, getting message that you cannot leave/record a message for user 998.
when I look at user 998's setup, the user id field is 998 but the extension field is blank, comment set to direct message, dnd is set to on and store messages is set to no...
is there something not set right in 998?

The idea was for 8 to have an @G(998) which is token programming which means go to mailbox 998, in the Extension field. . The other idea putting a menu option in 990 will work good too. Difference is that if you create a mailbox 8, it will work everywhere in the system, not just the main menu. But the user will probably only use it while listening to the main gretting anyway so having it as a menu option in 990and 991 may be simpler to setup.
Those are both shortcuts to ext 988. I see that there is a problem with mailbox 998. It should ask for an extension number of the box you want to leave a message, not the message that you can not leave a message. Something got changed or erased. I would have to check a working system to see what it is supposed to look like.

I recall my tech guy telling me that when I create a new user/extension/mailbox that I always put the extension number in the extension field and that will almost always if not always, match the user id and I will suffix the extension with an H which is supposed to mean not to wait on something....
IE, I am kind of thinking that I should have 998 in the extension field with an H but I am probably completely incorrect in that assumption...

ok, if I call the system with my cell, answer on the desk phone then either push the cnf/trn button or just push the vm button, wait for vm to come up and then push the direct message button (which is the speed dial 699 which equals 998) then input the extension I want it to go to, it give me 'that was an invalid entry'...???
Trying different versions of this equation now...
