On my CIX 670 running 5.1, one of my phones has issues with the speakerphone.

I've tried swapping out the phone (using models 2010, 3010, 3210, and 2020 fdsp) to no avail. I've rebuilt the extension multiple times. I've used different ports in the room. In short order I'll try plugging it into a different BDKU card.

If I turn the mic off, it works fine. Turning the volume down helps, but doesn't solve the issue. I originally thought the full duplex phone solved the problem...but it didn't. Other phones in other room plugged into the same card don't have the issue.

Ideas? Advice?

Does it happen at the block?

Is there another cable near-by, to move to and test?
(not just another pair in the existing cable : as there may be a short in it)

At this point in your troubleshooting, it's leading me to think a smashed cable that shorts out once in a while.

I think probably its speaker phone cutoff from background noise. for example if you turn off the mic and turn down the volume it helps, loud noise is getting in and causing whats know to us old telephone guys as clipping.

Do you have the 2020 FDSP with the external mic? Otherwise, its just another 2020. Also, none of the phones listed are full-duplex.

You need to turn the mics into high room noice mode.

On the DKT 20XX phones you can press the mic and volume down keys at the same time. The mic key will now flash when the speaker is in use.

I have a full duplex 2020, whether I said the right model or not is a different story. I was very suprised that it didn't solve my problem.

I tried a different jack in the room with a different station cable - it didn't make a difference.

I'll try the mic setting.

Thanks all. I'll let you know if the mic or a different port/card makes a difference.

mj_wald - I don't know how to change the mic setting. The directions you gave I looked up in the manual - they're to change the LCD contrast. I did mess around with it, and it didn't seem to change the contrast, nor did it make a difference with the mic at all (that I could tell) - and the mic light didn't change at all.

Anyway, a tech came out from my local toshiba dealer, and he found one thing I overlooked - the mic on the phone itself (on the lower right) was bumping into the tray the phone was sitting on. The phone is in a tray on the wall. We took it down and it worked better. Not perect. We'll let the user use it and see how it goes.
