Hello all,
I'm a new sign-up to the board, but I have been lurking on it for months now and you guys have solved a lot of my issues just by browsing the past topics, but I have a few new questions that I haven't been able to find the answer to as of yet.
I'm a former telco I&R tech, and am now working for a company that has recently began selling and servicing Toshiba phone systems.
I've poked around and learned most things on my own by practicing on the 670 we have at our office. I've also managed to assemble and install a CIX100 and a CIX40 from the ground up for two customers, and maintain a few other 670's. I'm learning as I go, it's been a lot of guesswork, but I am scheduled to go for proper training at the end of February.
However, I do seem to have a problem comprehending the older DK systems and the programming involved in them.
The company that used to service the systems in this area is no longer doing so, so there is no one local I can seek out that I have found just yet to get answers.
Basically, the customer has a Dk40i system and they are wondering how to change the display name on the phone sets. "Dave" is no longer working there and they want "Bill" to display on the phone now.
I do have access to Toshiba's manual archive, but I have yet to find a clear way to change their displays. I'm pretty sure they have EKT6520 phone sets. Is there anyone who could give me a quick way to change this display name?
My second issue with this customer is their voicemail. Since "Dave" is no longer there, and didn't give them his VM password upon leaving, they want to reset that box so "Bill" can record his own message.
They have a IVP8 card and written on the DK40 system was R3Admin, so I'm assuming that's the software the tech used to program their VM card.
Currently I have Stratagy VM Manager installed on my laptop, will this cause any problems if I were to connect using this software instead of downloading R3Admin, which I am unfamiliar with?
Lastly, in regards to the IVP8 card itself, there is the two male 9-pin serial ports on the card. I've only worked with LVMU and GVPH cards so far, connecting with a serial able and my PPTC-9 adapter.
In order to connect to the IVP8 card, it looks like I'll need to pick up a female to female 9-pin serial cable (cross-over or straight through, I am not sure), would connecting that from my laptop to the card allow me access to that card, or will I need some sort of reverse PPTC-9 dongle?
Hope this wasn't too much varied info for one post, but I appreciate any help you folks can offer.
Thanks

Basically the name change is Int #621 at the phone. You then enter the name exactly nothing like entering from a cell phone. It seems like it is kind of hard the first time. The # key changes from number to alpha mode The * key moves left The 1 key moves right in Alpha mode (a 1 in number mode) The 0 scrolls the letters, in alpha mode, of the key you entered. So if you press the 4 key a G appears. Use the 0 to change it to H, then I.
R3Amin was the software used to connect to the IVP8 revision 1, the older version with a tan faceplace. The new Stratagy VM manager also works with that version of Stratagy, so you don't need R3admin.
If a there is a new user, I prefer to delete, the recreate the mailbox if there is not any messages in there that they need to hear. You can also use the system administrator's box to delete, create, or reset the mailboxs, the same as the LVMU and GVPH.
The cable you need to connect is usually called a "Null Modem" serial cable, female to female. It is basically a cross over where the TX and the RX signals are crossed.
I have had trouble finding that cable. At one time I had a 25 pin null modem adaptor, with a 9 pin straight thru serial cable and 2- 25 pin to 9 pin. I might have even had a gender changer in ther also adaptors.

Thanks for the assistance! Won't be visiting the customer again until probably next week, but hopefully this does the trick!

Well I went and visited the customer the other day, and got everything sorted out.
For whatever reason, I couldn't connect to that IVP8 card with the null modem cable going into the serial to usb cable to my laptop, no matter how long I fiddled with the settings in VMManager.
But I just ended up using the 999 box to delete and recreate the old/new users.
The LCD display name instructions you gave me were perfect though and the customer is happy, so thanks a bunch!

Yeah, that's the weird thing. I was told by lots of people (including a guy at Toshiba tech support) that they've had no luck connecting to a VM card using a serial to USB cable. But before I even knew people were having issues with that, I had successfully connected to multiple LVMU and GVPH cards with not even a hint of trouble.

There is a USB to Serial made by Gold-x and someone told us that was the only one specified by Toshiba, who knows if its true.
We use the Gold-x USB to serial and find it flawless. It works for us, can't promise for anyone else.
