A system in Florida and a system in Washington already linked via VPN. I want the Florida system to use the Washington lines for long distance.I have no tech in Florida so I have to get this right the 1st time. Strata is still new to me but I know the Norstar pretty well and I'm good with small systems in general. I have E manager access to both systems. I searched for answers but they are all related to T1/Pri/Bri/point to point and this is VPN. I know just enough IP stuff to be dangerous. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Both systems have analog lines.

There are quite a few steps to connecting 2 CIX systems together. Let me just tell you what you would need installed before you can even start (assuming both are Strata CTX/CIX)

An IP card in both systems. The processor NIC can not be used for this. If the processor is an older processor, then the software should be updated to 3.10 and an LIPU card needs to be installed. For newer processors, ver 5.XX software you would want an MIPU card.

A StrataNet license in both systems. This will enable the connection over IP.

Since both of this items will require a Toshiba dealer, it would be best if they set up the connection also, because there are several steps required to make it work.

I will quote newtecky's reply, as sound advice and point you to this old topic - as it may be of some assistance.

The systems are already linked and talking to each other over a VPN. Both systems use the VM in Washington. I'm just interested in the last few steps to get the Florida system to grab an OLG from the Washington system.

I currently have a customer that has at one location a cix670 with one PRI installed in it. The remote nodes (3 cix100, 1 cix670) access the PRI at the main location for outgoing calls. All the remote nodes have no other trunks attached to it and it works great. It this what you are trying to accomplish?

Yes, Matt. Though the link is IP, no point to point. They would still like to use the copper in Florida for local calls.
It's patched into an LIPU card. I can figure out how to build an OLG easy enough, I'm just not sure how to send it to the Washington machine.
Nodes are a new concept to me.

Sorry RRino, my account info is out of date and I'm having trouble changing it.

Thanks all.

A quick way top connect to the remote OLG is to dial the Node ID + 9.

I have done this before, where 1 system would connect to another's lines. Best bet is to modify LCR if you are trying to route calls that are local to the other switch through their copper lines.

Would this be a simple as a speed dial button with the proper dialing string or training the few employees to dial it manually?
If thats the case I can take care of this by email and tell the customer ti kill long distance service at the remote location.
That sounds way too easy.
