After 15 years in this field, I am changing jobs in February. But there is one problem I still cannot overcome.
I have a customer who has offices 200 metres from each other. To make matters worse, one end has a 5-cabinet DK280 12 floors up while the other end is using a CXI670. Since the DK280 has about 70% EKT phones, upgrade is not an option. And so, no lease lines, no fancy fibre-optic link ups, no VOIP solutions. Just your basic CENTREX (5 lines each and they have their own Pilot numbers) connection between the two systems.
What bugged me was that when the CIX670 calls the DK280 via DISA, and if the extension on the DK280 does not answer, the ringing would stop a few seconds after the call was disconnected. But if a DK280 called on the CIX670 via DISA, the call would keep on ringing even after 10 minutes when it was disconnected. So, if you pick it up, you would hear an engaged tone, which only annoyed the customer and also, hogs the CENTREX line.
At first I thought it was the CENTREX but the same problem was there when I used a normal CO line as well. I wanted to call on the Distributor who could expedite the problem to Toshiba but my Boss disagreed after their answer is to get the customer to use ISDN PRI lines instead which would cut off slightly faster.
So, has anyone faced this problem before?

The DK280 has a feature called ARTS and AROH in Program 15 but the CIX670 does not have this.
ISDN BRi or PRi will clear down straigh away and not give you the same problem.
Can the Centrex lines give you a clear disconnect signal like a PSTN line? eg after 100ms

Carlos#1, I did get a clean tone from the earpiece if that is what you mean but regardless of normal CO line or Centrex, the CIX670 just kept on ringing. phonemeister, That was the very thing I did and it still rings. MacOSX, We wanted that solution too but the customer is not willing to spend so much since the Economic Crisis here. And the reason they did not want to lay a 400metre 10-pair cable was that its very bothersome to dig through a public road. We did tell them that the DISA is a last minute surprise fro us since they did not want to hire a receptionist to pass the calls. Anyway, with the way things are going, I doubt this will be settled in 2 weeks time. Now, one of their Deparment have shift to a new place across another road and my Boss is going to give them a Panasonic just to spite them. But personally, I know they're going to get another Toshiba and CENTREX. Maybe, this time I'll get my replacement to give them DK28 or another DK280. Ha ha ha. Anyway, thanks for the advise and if you guys happen to come down to Malaysia for a holiday, give me a call and I'll show you guys around.
