Hello everyone! I apologize if this is in the wrong forum, so mods please move it if necessary. I've got a Toshiba CTX 670 at our resort; we also have a sound system for music in our main building with speakers in the bar, cafeteria, and outside areas. The music is fed to the amp from a computer. What can I do to get the page signal from the card into the stereo system, while maintaining the music quality? Ideally the music would be muted or reduced in volume during announcements. Something that went between the computer and amp that switches inputs when it detects a page or something?

Thanks!

Have you checked the Amp for a paging input? Some amplifiers that are designed for paging will have a music mute built in.

So 1 option is to use an amp that provides a music mute.

Option B is to have a paging interface between your music/paging source and the amp. Don't know which is best but something like https://www.vikingelectronics.com/products/view_product.php?pid=199#

3rd option is to run the music through the phone system and have a Toshiba tech turn on backround music through the paging port. The Toshiba will mute the music during a page. The PC would also be your music on hold source.

I like newtecky's 3rd option the best, since it is the best aggregator of all your needs. A BIOU paging card will take care of all that for you and is fairly simple to install.

Thanks for the ideas! The amp in question isn't a paging amp, it's a large stereo system amp that drives a multitude of speakers with woofers/tweeters.

Would the BIOU provide the BGM in stereo, or is it a more of a mono thing? I was hoping for a "plug and pray" type deal that plugged in between the computer output and the amp input; but I doubt such a device exists.

That looks like it should work. I put option B in my post as the plug and play option, the viking paging adaptor.
That adaptor, and the BIOU card, and most paging/PA equipment are mono. In most cases stereo for overhead and background music is unnessesary.

Oh and by the way, if you want to page from your CIX 670 phoone system, you still need a BIOU card installed.
