I attempted to connect to the MIPU card which is in cabinet 2 slot 3 using Toshiba softphone and several different new IP extensions and noticed that it registered my mac address to my laptop and also the IP address that it was registered to but was still not able to connect. Also tried using a IPT5122SD and the same problem. Getting a TCP connect error. Not able to establish TCP connection. Obviously the network is blocking the completion of the connection Had the IT tech open up the necessary ports. Any ideas?

This is not a problem when on the local network. Only happens externally!

MIPU probabaly has an internal IP address using NAT through the firewall. It will only work externally if you give the MIPU an external IP address. The internal phopnes should still work connecting to the public IP address.

we normally stick a mini switch in between the carrier router and the customer firewall and plug directly into that.
also some home modem/routers will not work with Toshiba ip phones unless they get set in the DMZ. 2 wire, netopias and some others.

Any firewall at the IP phone side that has SPI firewall enabled will cause a problem. Linksys routers have SPI that can not be turned off. Netopia DSL routers also have issues.

I normally put the MIPU on a DMZ or separate it from the firewall with a switch. The customer is using VPN tunnel to connect to this location.
